Online Master’s in School Counseling

Not Accepting Applications

To best meet the needs of our students, we have decided to suspend enrollment in the MA in School Counseling and Bilingual School Counseling. We encourage you to explore On-campus MA in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness and Online MA in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness.

The Master of Arts in Online School Counseling is a 60-credit program designed to prepare you for careers as school counselors in K-12 educational settings. Upon graduation you will be equipped with the skills to support the academic, career, and personal/social development of students. This program emphasizes forming supportive relationships, understanding student development, and promoting equity and social justice within schools.

Core Course Sequence

Our curriculum integrates comprehensive training in counseling theories, ethical practices, human development, and multicultural counseling. You will learn to assess and address diverse student needs, implement effective school counseling programs, and advocate for equitable practices within the school environment. Key areas of focus include crisis intervention, group counseling, and career development. The combination of theoretical knowledge and practical skills ensures that you are well-prepared for your role as school counselors.

Specialization Sequences

General School Counseling Track 

This track offers a broad education in school counseling, covering topics such as career counseling, group counseling, and special education. Additionally, this track will offer you comprehensive training to prepare you to work in diverse roles within K-12 schools.

Bilingual School Counseling Track

This track is designed for those interested in working with bilingual or multilingual student populations. You will take courses on bilingual education, cultural competency, and language development. Upon graduation, you will be equipped to support English language learners and advocate for culturally responsive practices.

Culminating Experience

The program culminates in a practicum and internship, providing essential hands-on experience. The practicum consists of a 100-hour field experience focused on practical counseling skills in a school setting. The internship involves 600 hours of supervised practice, divided between K-8 and 9-12 grade levels. These experiences will enable you to apply your knowledge, build professional competencies, and gain confidence in real-world environments.
