Information for Students and Prospective Applicants

Students in the Educational Leadership, Politics, and Advocacy MA program complete an internship, typically during the fall and spring terms. Part-time students have the option to fulfill the internship requirement through their current place of employment, allowing for a flexible and relevant experience. Each student works closely with an advisor to develop an individualized internship plan that aligns with their career goals and academic interests.

Students intern with one of over 50 partnering not-for-profit and non-governmental organizations dedicated to supporting children, youth, families, and schools. Our partners include: United Way of New York City, Administration for Children’s Services, City Year New York City, Year Up, Inc., Education Trust, Advocates for Children, Hetrick Martin Institute, and Good Shepherd Services, and many other policy, advocacy, and youth-serving organizations.

Information for Partnering Organizations

The Educational Leadership, Politics, and Advocacy MA program prepares individuals passionate about working with communities, children, youth, and families to advance equity and expand access to educational opportunities. Additionally, students focus on partnering with schools to build and strengthen meaningful school-community relationships.

Our students typically come with diverse backgrounds and skill sets, including experience in education, community organizing, social work, policy advocacy, nonprofit management, and youth services. These experiences prepare them to contribute meaningfully to their host organizations.
