BS, Early Childhood Education and Early Childhood Special Education, Birth-Grade 2

The 128-credit BS in Early Childhood Education and Early Childhood Special Education Birth-Grade 2 (Initial Certification) is a dual certification program that equips you to educate children with diverse needs and abilities from birth to second grade. It prepares prospective teachers to be decision-makers and reflective practitioners, and stands out by its commitment to working in urban schools and using the city as a core resource for learning. You’ll engage in thoughtful discussions and interactions around the critical contemporary issues in early childhood education, developing the essential pedagogical skills to create rich, child-centered learning environments that enable children to grow and prosper in all areas.

This program's coursework is comprehensive, covering a wide range of areas, including the NYU CORE, foundational classes in education and education policy, pedagogical content for childhood education (including literacy development, integrated arts, and mathematics and science education), and early childhood special education (including learning, environments, and assessment and instruction strategies for students with disabilities). Each course in the program is tied to fieldwork or student teaching, generating rich and authentic reflections upon theory and practice.
