Collegium and Program Seminar

All undergraduate music business majors meet in Collegium six times each semester to discuss broad issues of the profession, career opportunities, and program/department matters. During the remaining weeks students meet with members of their major program for visits with specialists in their field and for progrommatic discussions.

Colloquy in Music Education (Thesis Requirement)

Master’s thesis preparation and presentation class taken for two semesters. First semester students research topics in music education, create an annotated bibliography, complete human subjects ethics training, and prepare a capstone project proposal. Second semester students complete a capstone research project based on reflective practice inquiry and creation methods. Focus on academic writing, research methods, use testing with learners, data analysis, oral presentation techniques. Guest presentations about published papers and theses.

Communication in Aging and Neurogenic Disorders

An overview of the nature, course, and severity of communication disorders resulting from neurological injury or disease, including impact of acquired neurologically-based communication disorders on the geriatric population. Topics include neurological basis of aphasia, dementia, traumatic brain injury, motor speech impairment, and dysphagia, as well as current evaluation strategies and treatment programs for these and related disorders. Effects of normal and pathological aging on speech, voice, language, cognition, hearing, and swallowing will also be examined.
