Critical analysis of teaching models through observation and practice. Students will learn to organize a course, conceptualize a unit, prepare lesson plans, devise and evaluate assessments, and effectively use technology in the classroom.

Clinical Anatomy of the Upper Quadrant

This course will enable students to enhance their knowledge of upper extremities, neck, oral, pharyngeal and laryngeal cavities through live video demonstration of gross dissection, live discussion, and student asynchronous class preparation using selected video and other resources. The asynchronous preparation resources will include video enactments of clinical scenarios that are relevant to the synchronous topics dealt with in class.While this is not a treatment course, the participants will discuss the clinical relevance of the anatomical structures to basic clinical problems during live interactions with the professor.

Clinical Assessment in Counseling Psychology II

Personality and clinical tests are studies. Cognitive and personality assessment skills are perfected. Projective testing is examined thoroughly, as assessment is grounded in personality theory. Emphasis is placed on administering and interpreting the multi-test battery and on synthesizing test findings, interview information, and clinical data into a comprehensive diagnostic report. Cross-cultural, ethical, and psychometric issues are critically evaluated with respect to validity and reliability of the assessment protocol.

Clinical Case Seminar in Trauma Studies: Transdisciplinary Reappraisals of Clinical Work

The work of mental health clinicians will be the focus of study. The complexity of the clinician’s trauma work will be considered through clinical presentation by clinicians, readings, and discussions. Topics include: the meaning and experience of trauma, interventions in clinical trauma work (such as child abuse, sexual abuse, rape, human trafficking, battering, racism, and war and its aftermath, terrorism and political action); and working with natural disasters. There will be academic autopsies of case material.

Clinical Interventions for Specialized Populations

Culturally attuned interventions consider the sociocultural, psychological and developmental factors in treatment. Current research for clients struggling with addictions and those involved in judicial proceedings will be shared. Communities impacted by social injustices and art therapy methodology to effectively, legally and ethically serve these specialized populations will be discussed. Engaging clients to address trauma and violence needs a broad lens that also includes issues of societal inequality. Guest lectures will supplement course learning.

Clinical Management II: Nerve Disorders of the Upper Quadrant

Essential to good clinical practice is the use of treatment strategies to the trajectory of recovery of physical function and ultimately occupational performance. This course will use a seminar, laboratory, and workshop model to explore the intervention processes for hand and upper limb nerve disorders that are traumatic or chronic in nature. This course will address nerve injuries in continuity that frequently present as cumulative trauma disorders between tendon and nerve involvement and the subsequent appropriate intervention strategies.

Clinical Methods in Communicative Sciences and Disorders

Introduction to contemporary issues of clinical practice in communication disorders across the lifespan. Emphasis on integration of previous coursework with direct clinical observations of diagnostic and treatment sessions. Introduction to clinical settings through study of current methods of standardized and non-standardized assessment procedures, client interviewing, treatment planning, clinical report writing, and implementation of treatment plans.
