Sending Final Official Transcript
Congratulations, if you were recently admitted to our program.
The Office of Graduate Admissions must adhere to the university's policy which requires we have proof of your bachelor's degree and for some programs proof of your master's degree.
In order for a transcript to be deemed final official the following has to occur:
- The transcript must be received by the institution directly, therefore you must have your institution send the transcript to the Office of Graduate Admissions, electronically, by mail or by a third party transcript service (Parchment/National Clearinghouse) and,
- The transcript must clearly list the degree awarded and the date your degree was awarded/conferred.
Please note:
- We highly recommend you verify the degree awarded and date your degree was awarded/conferred is listed on the transcript, prior to your degree awarding institution sending your official transcript to the Office of Graduate Admissions.
- Transcripts uploaded to the online application by you, the student are deemed unofficial even if that transcript list your degree awarded and date your degree was awarded/conferred. You must have the institution send the Office of Graduate Admission your official transcript directly.
For students who received a degree from a non-US institution, a WES or ECE international credential evaluation indicating a US equivalency of a bachelor's and/or a masters degree, will fulfill the final official transcript requirement for the degree level.
The Office of Graduate Admissions' goal is to receive your final official transcript before the start of classes for the term in which you were admitted. If we don't receive it, NYU Registrar’s Office will put a “College Graduation Document needed” hold on your record, which will result in de-enrollment and will prevent you from registering for future semesters. Any scanned official copies of transcripts uploaded to the online application system are not acceptable for the purposes of this requirement. Also, any transcripts sent to our office while you currently had coursework in progress are not considered final official transcripts.
Please follow the step above at Sending Transcript(s), to send in your final official transcript.
Transcripts from Outside the United States or Canada
If you have completed, or are completing, undergraduate and/or graduate degrees at institutions outside of the US or Canada you are required to provide translation and a course-by-course evaluation of your transcripts.
These evaluations help us understand how your grades compare to grades in the US education system, as well as what the equivalent US degree is.
We have two approved agencies that can prepare your required course-by-course evaluation:
- World Education Services (WES): We prefer the WES Course-by-Course ICAP Credential Evaluation, as you can request that WES send the evaluation directly to us.
- Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE): Visit ECE's website and select a Course-by-Course Evaluation Report. Please have the evaluation sent to NYU Steinhardt by ECE Dispatch.
We do not require evaluations for US students who spent a semester or year abroad, nor is it required if you attended an English-language institution outside the US that is regionally accredited by the US Department of Education.

TOEFL (Test of English to Speakers of Other Languages) - Send official scores from ETS to NYU Steinhardt using institution code 2556. A department code is not required.
