Dr. Craig Haen has been an adjunct faculty member since 2011, bringing his extensive experience working with youth, adults, and families in diverse settings to the classroom. He is particularly active in the treatment of individuals and communities impacted by developmental, familial, interpersonal, and mass trauma through his full-time private practice in White Plains, NY and his work as a trainer, consultant, and supervisor internationally.
Dr. Haen has published research and scholarship on trauma, gender, child and adolescent treatment, group therapy, and integrative practice, including guest editing two special issues on trauma in The Arts in Psychotherapy (2009, 2019). The most recent of these volumes focuses on research on international applications of the creative arts therapies with military service members and veterans. He has published four books: Creative-Arts Based Group Therapy with Adolescents with Nancy Boyd Webb, Handbook of Child and Adolescent Group Therapy with Seth Aronson, Engaging Boys in Treatment, and Clinical Applications of Drama Therapy in Child and Adolescent Treatment with Anna Marie Weber.
Dr. Haen serves on the Editorial Boards of The Arts in Psychotherapy, International Journal of Group Psychotherapy, and GMS Journal of Arts Therapies. In addition, he co-chairs the Community Outreach task force for the American Group Psychotherapy Association and serves on its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion task force, in which capacities he has coordinated domestic trauma response and co-authored the organization’s public statements on a number of human rights issues.
Dr. Haen is co-founder and training director of the Kint Institute, which offers a post-Masters certificate program in the arts and trauma treatment in New York City. He also is Adjunct Faculty in the doctoral program in Expressive Therapies at Lesley University.
