Jasmine N. Hawkins-White

Dr. Jasmine N. Hawkins-White is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Program Director of Education Studies. She holds a Ph.D. in Education Policy and certification in Education Law from Indiana University Bloomington, as well as a Master of Science in Teaching in Adolescent Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. Dr. Hawkins-White's research critically examines the intersections of race, power, and liberation within Black communities in urban settings. Her work is anchored in critical theory and critical pedagogy, focusing on the socioeconomic experiences of Black individuals. She has explored the impact of neoliberal policies on education, urban development, and social welfare, with her recent project investigating the experiences of Black teachers in New York City. Her love for the connection between history and teaching led her to write a published book review on Fugitive Pedagogy: Carter G. Woodson and the Art of Black Teaching by Jarvis R. Givens. Her teaching portfolio includes courses on Critical Race Theory, Foundations of Education, and Legal and Ethical Issues for Teachers, reflecting her commitment to fostering an inclusive and critically engaged learning environment. Additionally, she focuses on cross-racial mentorship relationships between faculty and students. 

Before joining NYU, Dr. Hawkins-White held academic positions including Adjunct Assistant Professor at Indiana University and Visiting Lecturer at Framingham State University. She also served as a middle school teacher in New York City for five years. Her dedication to education and leadership is evident in her numerous roles, such as School of Education President of the Graduate Student Association and her involvement with the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center. Dr. Hawkins-White has been recognized for her excellence in teaching and leadership with awards such as the Outstanding Associate Instructor of the Year and induction into the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center Hall of Fame.
