PATRICIA DYE, a native of St. Croix Virgin Island, was educated on the Caribbean Island of Montserrat, and raised in Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York. She earned her B.F.A. in Dance Performance at Adelphi University and her M.A. in Dance and Dance Education from New York University Steinhardt School of Culture and Human Development. Ms. Dye is currently pursuing her doctorate in the Dance Education Ed.D program at Teachers College, Columbia University. As a dance educator, Ms. Dye has received several awards during her teaching career, including but not limited to, Dance Teacher of the Year Award by Dance Teacher Magazine (2020) and Outstanding Dance Educator Award from the New York State Dance Education Association (NYSDEA) for Pre K-12 Dance Educators in 2022. While serving as assistant and dance captain for Dr. Charles “Baba Chuck” Davis since 1988, Ms. Dye was able to observe firsthand how Baba Chuck implemented and taught the Dunham technique in his dance classes. Building on the legacies of both Chuck Davis and Katherine Dunham, Pat has and continues to conduct Dunham-based technique and cultural heritage workshops at various colleges, universities and cultural institutions.
