Maria Garcia, LMSW, is the Associate Director of NYU's Path Student Support Team which is an inclusion program that aims to support students with emotional disabilities. Maria supports the implementation of the Path program in New York City Public Schools and works as the Social Work consultant.
Maria is originally from Sunset Park Brooklyn and was proudly raised by immigrant parents. She is a first generation Latinx mental health professional holding a Bachelor’s degree in Latin American Studies and Psychology from New York University and graduated with honors from the Hunter School of Social Work with her LMSW. Maria's career spans roles in home-based crisis intervention, foster care, and public school social work for over 17 years. Maria is a national speaker who has contributed to NASW, AASWG, SREE conferences among others. Maria has led workshops on various topics including, serving students with emotional disabilities in inclusive classrooms, parenting neurodiverse children and the impact of immigration policies on childrens’ mental health. Maria will begin the Doctorate of Clinical Social Work program at NYU, Sept 2024
