Ethan K. Balk PhD, RDN, CDN, ACSM-EP, Clinical Associate Professor of Clinical Nutrition and Didactic Program in Dietetics Director, received his BS in Exercise Science and MS in Education at Florida State University. He earned his PhD in Kinesiology and RDN from The Ohio State University.
Dr. Balk is a clinical dietitian that specializes in pre-and post-surgery bariatric medical nutrition therapy, nutrition counseling, and medical weight loss; having worked regularly with the Yale Center for Weight Management at Yale New Haven Hospital. His research focus centers on the psychosocial and socioeconomic barriers to weight management in minority post-bariatric surgery patients and the overall social injustice of the obesity pandemic through a post-neoliberal and feminist theory lens.
Prior to joining the faculty in NFS, Dr. Balk was an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Promotion and Exercise Science at Western Connecticut State University where he was recognized by the School of Professional Studies for excellence in teaching. During his tenure at WCSU, he created the Master of Science program in Human Nutrition and served as University Senate President.
