Originally from Pomona, California, Jon-Cesar “JC” Ignacio is a Senior majoring in Music Theory and Composition with a concentration in Contemporary Production and Songwriting at NYU. He is focused on honing his skills as a songwriter, producer, and collaborator.

Serving the NYU Songwriting Program as the Student Program Assistant has given JC the opportunity to interact with songwriting greats such as Rosanne Cash, Taj Mahal, and Sam Hollander. He has also supported legendary musicians Shawn Pelton (Saturday Night Live), Bashiri Johnson (Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson), and Leyla McCalla in their visits to NYU Songwriting.

Jon-Cesar works closely with Program Director, Phil Galdston, and all Songwriting faculty in order to organize events and enhance the experience of all Songwriting students. His songwriting mentors include Galdston, Dana Calitri, Oskari Nurminen, and Maia Sharp.

He regularly works as a church pianist and has served as the coordinator, music director, and keyboardist in the bi-annual NYU Songwriting and Vocal Performance Program Collaboration Concert. JC has also served as assistant music director and pianist in NYU Tisch New Theatre’s production of Spring Awakening In Concert. Supporting his fellow artists, JC has performed on some of New York’s most famous stages, such as S.O.B.’s and The Bitter End. He is committed to diversify and bring new perspectives to the music industry.
