With over 20 years as a New York City educator, Dr. Andolyn Brown has had the privilege of serving teachers, students, and families in various settings - including the richest and poorest congressional districts in the United States. A guiding principle to her work has always been incorporating culturally responsive and sustaining education(CRS-E) practices into the communities she serves and developing equitable educational opportunities that elevate voice, access, and influence for students and families.
Throughout her career as an educator, Dr. Brown has engaged in participatory action research to understand better the ways in which children experience race and racism in schools. She has also engaged in research on ways of leveraging job-embedded coaching in building school leader capacity around instructional leadership that leads to improved student outcomes. This focus on ways of leveraging job-embedded training, coaching, and technical assistance remains a focus of her work.
In addition to the interests named above- Dr. Brown's current professional interests also include supporting educators in naming the intentional practices they engage in on a consistent basis that allow them to maintain and sustain a focus on educational equity in their classrooms and school communities.
