Computer Science Education

Open to all undergraduate NYU students, this minor prepares you to teach computer science and programming to children and adolescents in schools, museums, community centers, and other educational settings. You will take computer science education courses and education electives at Steinhardt, as well as computer science classes at NYU's Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Tandon School of Engineering.

Gain the skills you need to join the ever-growing field of computer science as an in-demand, skilled teacher by:

  • Learning teaching methods and curricular theory related to computer science education for grades K–12
  • Developing learning objectives and designing, implementing, and revising lesson units
  • Gaining foundational computer science knowledge, including object-oriented programming, the design and implementation of algorithms and data structures, and computer architecture and organization

This minor does not qualify you for initial teacher certification. If you are interested in becoming a fully certified classroom teacher, consider one of our undergraduate or master’s programs in teacher education.
