The Recording Academy announced the creation of a special merit award for Best Song for Social Change. The award was proposed by Music Business Professor Carlos Chirinos. Students cataloged 400 songs dealing with social change.

The NYU Chorale, Black Music Ensemble, and World Voices Collective offer students the opportunity to explore diverse vocal traditions—from classical and contemporary choral works to music of the African diaspora and global vocal styles.
