In this remote global course, students will actively explore and analyze transformational art-making with experts and communities in Los Angeles.
In the first few days of the course, students are oriented to the scene of art-based organizing work in Los Angeles, California. Students will then gain in-depth experience working with the staff from LA Commons. There will also be virtual visits from community experts, who will discuss the impact & efficacy of arts-driven interventions, especially as they pertain to justice, resistance, reconciliation, & transformation.
This course will interrogate theatre through a wide-angle lens — homing in on its inherent interdisciplinarity & evolutionary capacity as participants critically examine both presumed & potential functions of the discipline in site-specific contexts.
