Summer Piano Intensive

Due to COVID-19 related concerns, the 2020 Summer Piano Intensive has been canceled.

The NYU Steinhardt Summer Piano Intensive brings serious young professionals and gifted student pianists to study and perform in America’s cultural capital, at one of the world’s most esteemed universities. The Intensive offers instruction and mentoring appropriate for young artists and college-age students focused on pursuing performance careers, as well as advanced high school students preparing for conservatory auditions and competitions.

Participants will have daily lessons with NYU Steinhardt Summer Piano Intensive Artist Faculty, as well as coaching on duo piano and four-hand repertoire.

A focus of the Summer 2020 session will be the intersection of music and the visual arts. Curated activities, including visits to collections at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Neue Galerie, and the Museum of Modern Art, will connect with our hands-on exploration of piano literature and performance practice. The two-week Intensive will feature performances by both members of the Artist Faculty and our student participants.

Audition Requirements

Submit a video with two major works from the solo repertoire from contrasting periods (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th-century, and Contemporary) and a letter of recommendation from your current private teacher.

Auditing the 2020 Piano Intensive

Interested students, professionals and the general public who may not qualify for or do not wish to Participate in the 2020 Summer Piano Intensive now have the opportunity to audit the workshop.

  • On-Campus Housing is NOT provided to Auditors
  • Application and audition NOT required, but auditors must register via the online registration form (link below)
  • Auditing Fee: $750 (full two weeks)
