Designed for high-caliber performers seeking careers in academia as well as the concert hall, this dual degree enables you to earn a master of music in Piano Performance (with a concentration in Solo Piano) and an advanced certificate in Piano Performance and Pedagogy. You’ll take advanced courses in pedagogy and the piano performance practices of the 18th–21st centuries, as well as focus on performance opportunities and private lessons.

Official Degree Title
This four-semester program combines extended solo study with pedagogy. Your experience will include public recitals, seminars taught by artist faculty, private lessons and chamber music coaching, and a vast array of courses in music education, piano performance, and music history, theory, and composition.
You’ll learn performance practices involving a repertoire spanning three centuries, pedagogical traditions that shape our approach to the instrument, and educational perspectives on the art of performance. This unique program also allows you to work closely with an artist faculty mentor while benefiting from the expertise of all members of our faculty – renowned pianists who continue to perform and teach at major institutions around the world.
You’ll gain the skills necessary to pursue careers in academia as well as the concert hall. You’ll also benefit from our artist faculty’s years of experience and professional networks. Their personal contacts at major performing venues, cultural centers, and academic institutions will be critical to your career, and to developing your opportunities as a young artist.
