Applied Psychology Adjunct Faculty

Karen Nercessian, LMHC, MPA is a licensed psychotherapist and founder and clinical director of Nomad Center, a private practice in Manhattan dedicated to integrative mental health care for adults, adolescents, and couples. She supports clients navigating issues of identity, belonging, and well-being, with particular focus on LGBTQIA+ individuals, young people in formative transitions, and those balancing complex cultural and social dynamics. Karen also brings a deep understanding of generational trauma, displacement, and the complexities of cultural identity to her work, helping clients heal wounds that span across time and experience.

Karen’s approach is grounded in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and somatic, integrative practices that treat the whole person. She incorporates mindfulness, meditation, and experiential approaches to help clients cultivate resilience, self-compassion, and deeper connection to themselves and others.

The field of mental health is undergoing a remarkable transformation, with new research demonstrating the potential of psychedelic-assisted therapies in addressing depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, and addiction. Karen is certified in Psychedelic Therapy and Integration  through Fluence and works with clients seeking guided, ethical ways to explore these modalities—always emphasizing the primacy of the therapeutic alliance, safety, preparation and integration as the foundation for lasting healing.

She holds a Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling and a Master of Arts in Public Administration, both from New York University.
