Dr. Javian Brabham serves as Assistant Professor of Music and Music Education and Director of Brass Studies at New York University. Prior to his appointment at NYU, he served as Assistant Professor of Trumpet and Brass Area Chair at Valdosta State University (2019–2024) and Assistant Director of Bands at Young Harris College (2018–2019).

As an active performer, Dr. Brabham currently serves as Principal Trumpet of the Albany (GA) Symphony Orchestra. He previously held the same position with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra. He also performs regularly with the American Composers Orchestra, New York Pops Orchestra, Boise Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Gateways Music Festival Orchestra.

Dr. Brabham has presented masterclasses and appeared as a featured artist at festivals and universities nationwide. He has been a soloist with the Valdosta Symphony, New York University Wind Symphony, and Valdosta State Wind Ensemble, and has performed and presented at major national and international conferences, including the International Trumpet Guild Conference, the College Music Society, and the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors Conference.

As a chamber musician, he is a founding member of the Brookwood Trio (trumpet, tuba, and piano). Since its inception, the trio has captivated audiences with its unique blend of brass and piano, embarking on numerous regional tours and appearing at international conferences.

Dr. Brabham’s students have been accepted into leading undergraduate and graduate programs across the country and have secured K–12 teaching positions. His students have won International Trumpet Guild Conference Scholarships and have been named finalists and semifinalists at the National Trumpet Competition in both solo and ensemble divisions.

Dr. Brabham completed his Bachelor of Music Education degree at Florida State University, where he studied with Dr. Christopher Moore. He earned his Master of Music in Performance at the University of New Mexico under the guidance of Jeff Piper and John Marchiando, and later completed his Doctor of Music in Performance at Florida State University, where he also served as a graduate assistant in trumpet.

He maintains active memberships in several professional organizations, including the International Trumpet Guild, National Association for Music Education, College Music Society, National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors, and the National Trumpet Competition.
