Chavel Guarino is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Clinical Supervisor and Adjunct Faculty at the Department of Applied Psychology at NYU and the Department of Counseling and Human Services at John Jay College. She was born in the Dominican Republic and migrated to the US at the age of 11. She completed her BA in Forensic Psychology and minor in Human Services at John Jay College and obtained her Masters of Arts in Mental Health Counseling and Wellness from New York University. Most of her clinical experience has been in outpatient community mental health centers and private practice providing therapy to clients from different age groups and diverse ethnic backgrounds. She specializes in mood disturbances, depression, anxiety disorders, substance abuse, domestic violence, trauma, stress, life transitions, and multicultural issues. She is a currently a Clinical Supervisor and Senior Psychotherapist at The Soho Center for Mental Health Counseling in where she provides clinical training to clinicians in training and psychotherapy to clients.
