Alexander V. Badillo, JD, MA, LMHC, NCC is an adjunct professor at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. Specifically, he focuses his efforts on helping aspiring clinicians develop the foundational skills necessary to become competent and formidable practitioners. Alex’s professional overtures have seen him work as a multilingual translator and editor, a real estate agent, a law clerk at the New York Supreme Court and a commercial litigator in Texas. Yet, his true passion was discovered after earning his masters in mental health counseling and wellness from the very institution he now teaches at.
Having lived in many parts of the world, and having visited many others still, Alex has developed a profound sense of admiration and respect for the multitude of cultures and people that make up our world. This perspective allows him to approach situations with an appreciation for qualities, facts and details that many others overlook. Moreover, it impressed on him the importance of dignity, understanding and acceptance that help us better navigate our shared space and experiences. Alex truly believes that we can only move forward when we move together, but that even one person alone can help shape the world.
Alex is currently embarked on a journey that has taken him from the lone intern at a solo private practice to the owner of a thriving practice of his own; with a team of clinicians, supervisors, interns and support staff that are instrumental to his continued success. There, he deploys and fosters the same dedication, compassion and desire to learn and improve that he brings to the classroom. Whether as a therapist, a supervisor or instructor, Alex views his role as one meant to help others maximize their potential and to help them succeed in whatever it is one puts their mind to.
