The PR Agency, Weber Shandwick, celebrated four Media, Culture, and Communications graduates at its New York City global office on May 8th.
The students shared original research undertaken at the agency to Weber Shandwick senior leadership and their professors and advisors from the NYU Department of Media, Culture, and Communications.
They were the first graduates of the NYU at Weber Shandwick Masters in Residence program.
Aisha Becker-Burrowes presented, Visions of Justice: Communications Strategies for Social Change and the Visual Economy of BLM, an inquiry into how digital image activism is creating spaces for marginalized voices and is shaping the contemporary media landscape and visual culture.
Gabriella Lee’s talk, Rethinking the Business of Diversity, deconstructed the term, “diversity,” advocating for a shift away from diversity rhetoric
In SoftSpot, Marcha Johnson, created a speculative object embedded with artificial intelligence and described its potential impact on daily life and human identity.
Lauren Hom’s presentation, This Woman’s Word, This Woman’s Worth, explored how the stories of marginalized women who have triumphed over standards set by the dominant culture can inspire policy and initiatives and younger women.
The NYU Weber Shandwick program is focused on increasing the number of technology-engaged, globally-savvy professionals in the media and communications industry. During the summer of 2018, students participated in an on-site residency in Berlin, Germany. They also visited Weber Shandwick’s German offices in Cologne and Munich.
