The NYU at Weber Shandwick: Masters in Residence Program

The NYU at Weber Shandwick: Masters in Residence program is designed for select students enrolled in the NYU Steinhardt Department of Media, Culture, and Communication’s MA degree program. This newly launched, unique-to-the-field program combines academic rigor and professional application to redefine the media and communications industry for the 21st century. It helps eliminate barriers to graduate education for historically underrepresented applicants, while offering students professional pathways to succeed in a dynamically changing media landscape.

Partnering with global communications and engagement agency Weber Shandwick, this NYU program aims to cultivate early professionals primed to enter the media and communications sectors, prepare them to be versatile analysts of global media, facilitate their advancement to positions of leadership, and address the clear need for diverse voices in the media industry.

What The Program Offers:

  • Funded tuition in the NYU MCC MA degree program (the scholarship covers the 36 credits required for graduation, plus annual registration fees). View total cost of attendance here.
  • Personalized academic mentoring from a designated NYU faculty member.
  • A part-time paid position during Fall and Spring semesters at Weber Shandwick. Scholars are assigned to different creative units and work alongside company employees. They receive professional training from senior executives, who also serve as mentor on a creative cumulative project driven by the student.
  • Eligibility for summer employment after students’ first year in one of Weber Shandwick’s global offices.
  • Please note: Weber Shandwick Scholars have the same program requirements as other students enrolled in the MA program. All incoming MA students work closely with academic advisers to shape their preferred curricular pathway within the field of media studies.

Who Should Apply?

  • The program seeks curious, resourceful, and imaginative candidates who will be catalytic to the professional world around them.
  • We welcome applicants from all backgrounds to apply for this program. Both Weber Shandwick and NYU are committed to fostering diversity, inclusivity, and equity throughout the media industry and academia, and we especially encourage candidates from historically underrepresented groups (race, gender, economic) to apply.
  • Prior experience in PR is not necessary, but the successful applicant must have a desire to take risks and reinvent media and communications for a new generation of users and makers.
  • Due to visa constraints, the program is only available to applicants with prior work authorization or U.S. citizens.
