NYU Metro Center is proud to announce that registration for NYU Metro Center’s 2024 Equity Conference is now officially open. Educators, parents/caregivers, youth, community organizers, and technical assistance providers can register to attend Equity Now: 70 Years After Brown vs. Board, to be held at New York University's Kimmel Center on Friday, May 17th, 2024.
The day chosen for this convening was not an arbitrary selection, but rather a purposeful one. May 17th, 2024 is exactly 70 Years to the day that the U.S. Supreme Court (SCOTUS) offered its landmark decision in Brown v. Board of Education. The optimism and expectation accompanying the historic moment of SCOTUS’ 1954 ruling in Brown v. Board, contrasted with the persistent school segregation and racial achievement gaps of our present-day schools in 2024, is a moment of realization. It is even a moment of clarity that reminds both conference organizers and attendees what it means to fight for equity on behalf of our Black, Indigenous, and Latinx children, students with disabilities and multilingual learners who still have not received equality nor equity in their educational experiences.
As such, NYU Metro Center collaborates with members of the education justice community to produce the Equity Now Conference. The 2024 Equity Conference aims to prioritize and share liberatory-focused education practices to fulfill the hope of the Brown vs. Board decision, some seven decades ago.
NYU Metro Center’s 2024 Equity Conference offers attendees a full day of learning to engage sustainable district and school-based equity practices that center efforts to get to equity and liberatory education practices. The Equity Now Conference will facilitate opportunities for networking with members of educational communities who have committed to the process of transforming their classrooms, schools, & districts. NYU Metro Center’s 2024 Equity Conference attendees will walk away with clear next steps on what one must do, to take action now and to move toward equity!
