PAA Faculty Share Research at International Alliance of Arts Management Conference

Faculty from NYU's Performing Arts Administration program participated in the 2024 International Alliance of Arts Management (IAAM) conference, hosted by the University of York from October 31 to November 1, 2024. The conference, themed “Global Opportunities and Challenges in Arts Management and Education,” addressed the evolving landscape of arts management and emphasized the critical role of education in preparing future leaders.

NYU, a founding member of IAAM, holds a prominent role in the organization, with Program Director Dr. Richard Maloney serving as Vice President. IAAM’s mission to foster a dynamic international academic community, aligns with a major NYU’s strategic pathway -- to lead the world in global education and research.

Dr. Maloney presented his applied research, “Arts Administration Doctoral Education: Which Degree is Right for You?” His session provided valuable guidance for students and professionals evaluating advanced degrees in arts administration, highlighting the unique opportunities and challenges of various paths.

Visiting Assistant Professor Dr. Ruby Yu delivered a presentation -- “Artistic Response in Times of Crisis.” Dr. Yu explored how arts organizations can adapt and respond creatively to global challenges, including climate change, political instability, public health crises, and shifting social dynamics. Her presentation emphasized the importance of resilience, sustainability, and innovation in crisis management.

“IAAM does an amazing job of bringing together arts management and cultural policy students and faculty from around the world so they can learn from each other,” Dr. Maloney remarked, highlighting IAAM’s role as a global platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing.

With the 2025 conference slated to be held in South Korea, the annual IAAM conference will continue to be a crucial venue to advance dialogue and innovation in arts management education worldwide.
