NYU’s Sony Audio Institute has announced GRAMMY-nominated producer, writer, and multi-instrumentalist Alissia as its first-ever Artist-in-Residence, launching a new program that brings leading music innovators directly into the classroom. Alissia, who made history as the ninth woman ever nominated for Producer of the Year, has worked with industry icons including Anderson Paak, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Nile Rodgers, Kaytranada, and Calvin Harris. Her distinctive sound and creative approach have also caught the attention of legends like Quincy Jones, Prince, and Bootsy Collins.

As Artist-in-Residence, Alissia will lead workshops and mentorship sessions with NYU students and faculty, including a masterclass at the Sony Audio Institute Studio on November 7 and a career panel exploring creativity, collaboration, and the business of music. “I’m honored to be the first Artist-in-Residence for the Sony Audio Institute,” said Alissia. “Having the opportunity to work with students who are at the forefront of music technology and business is incredibly exciting. I look forward to sharing my experiences and learning from their fresh perspectives as we shape the future of music creation together.”

Institute Director Larry S. Miller called Alissia “exactly the kind of innovative spirit and artistic excellence we want to share with our students,” noting that her path “embodies the creative possibilities that emerge when artistry meets cutting-edge technology.” Launched in March 2025 as a collaboration between NYU Steinhardt and Sony Corporation, the Sony Audio Institute serves as a hub for mentorship, research, and creative exchange, reflecting Sony’s commitment to empowering the next generation of audio innovators through access to industry leaders, world-class tools, and real-world experience.
