NY Marathon Inspires Dance Theme

Dancer posed to start a running race

On Your Mark, a fun and audience provoking dance, by first year Dance Education student Sky Morgan, was inspired by the NYC Marathon. The piece will be one of 18 performed in the Master’s Dance Concert on April 21 and 22 at the Frederick Leowe Theatre.

Sky said the idea came to her as she was watching the Marathon and imagined what fun it would be for the runners to do a flash mob and then disperse back to the race. “It is a jazz funk piece that has elements of house and waacking,” she explained. “The movement is very playful and directly connected to the musicality of the song being used, which is "Kill the Lights" by Alex Newell.” The piece, which has eight dancers, includes many moments of play and joking around as runners warm up and attempt to trip their fellow competitors.
