The festival features six concerts of new music as well as panel discussions and workshops at Mise-En’s new Harlem venue—and at NYU and Brooklyn College.
Moon Ha conducts a Mise-En ensemble performance. The 2026 Mise-En Festival is June 16-20.
Mise-En, a New York-based contemporary music collective led by composer and NYU Steinhardt Music Assistant Professor of Music Technology Moon Ha, presents its 12th music festival June 16 through 20 in Harlem, Brooklyn College, and NYU. The week-long event spotlights 35 winners of a juried pool of 886 entries.
Five of the six festival concerts are performed by an ensemble of nine musicians at the Mise-En Harlem, its newly opened, intimate venue located at 45 Saint Nicholas Avenue; a sixth is hosted by Brooklyn College. In addition, composers and musicians will participate in workshops and panel discussions at the Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions at NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development in Greenwich Village.
The festival is organized by Ha and fellow NYU alumni Akiva Zamcheck (Arts & Science), a musicologist and assistant professor at Lafayette College, and composer Adam Mirza (Gallatin ’17), an associate professor at Emory University.
The festival was created to provide opportunities for composers whose work might not otherwise be heard, explains Ha.
“Many larger organizations understandably focus on established names and recognized figures, while many festivals also develop particular aesthetic identities that can limit the range of composers and musical approaches they present. Our goal is to help bridge that gap by creating a platform for underrepresented composers and a broader diversity of artistic voices,” Ha says.
Mise-En received 886 submissions from composers around the world and selected 35 to be performed over five days.
Our goal is to ... [create] a platform for underrepresented composers and a broader diversity of artistic voices.
The 2026 Mise-En Festival is supported by the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, the New York State Council on the Arts, the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, Brooklyn College, and NYU.
“Our partnerships with NYU and Brooklyn College are extremely valuable because they provide resources and support for educational events, but they do not influence our programming decisions,” explains Ha.
The schedule features 7:30 p.m. concerts on June 16, 17, 18, and 19 at Mise-En Harlem, 45 Saint Nicholas Avenue. The 3 p.m. concert on June 20 will be held at the Tow Center at Brooklyn College, 2920 Campus Road. The final concert is June 20 at 7 p.m. at Mis-En Harlem.
NYU Steinhardt hosts composer talks and panel discussions during the day June 16-18 at 35 E. 4th Street, Room 303.
Admission is free, but tickets and registration are required. Program and admission information can be found at the Mise-En website.
Since its inception in 2011, Mise-En has collaborated with Washington Square Contemporary Music Society, International Alliance for Women in Music, Austrian Cultural Forum New York, Open Meadows Foundation, New York Foundation for the Arts, I-Park, and Goethe-Institute Boston.
