NYU Steinhardt Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop this semester with a full calendar of events exploring Hip-Hop's local origins and global impact. Events recognize Hip-Hop's influence on music and dance, technology, education, cinema, journalism, and more, with curated events involving students, faculty, and alumni, as well as guests from the industry and community. The legendary artist and choreographer Rennie Harris will speak on Hip-Hop's cultural resonance, lead a dance workshop, and participate in a talkback with the audience.
Hip Hop Moviethon (Oct. 28)
Hip-Hop's first female soloist MC Debbie D introduces Beat Street (3:00 pm), followed by Krush Groove (5:00 pm) and Straight Outta Compton (7:30 pm).
