In his latest podcast, Dr. Dave Schroeder, Music Professor of Jazz Studies and host of the NYU Jazz Cast Series, interviewed classical saxophonist Nicolas Prost and pianist Sebastien Paindestre. The musicians had just premiered excerpts from a saxophone concerto at NYU written by distinguished Steinhardt alumni Wayne Shorter. Witnessing the passion French classical musicians have for performing music written by an American jazz artist speaks volumes about how music is a universal language that breaks down borders around the world, said Schroeder. The day after their NYU performance, it was announced that Mr. Shorter passed away at the age of 89 making the premier performance of his work bitter sweet.
