"As the former Director of Jazz Studies and current Dept Chair of NYU Steinhardt, I am constantly surrounded by students and internationally acclaimed artist faculty who invariably end up holding court in my office to candidly discuss their musical experiences. Anyone who has visited the jazz studies program or my office would compare the musician traffic to that of rush hour at Grand Central Station. With the constant flow of musicians moving in and out, my days are filled with conversations that range from the casual to the profound. The NYU Steinhardt Jazz Interview Series on YouTube developed as an outgrowth of my daily interaction with musicians, students, and music fans. The series has grown into an open exchange of knowledge for anyone interested in understanding the musician's process and the human side of being a jazz artist. With the start of the series in the Fall of 2014, the NYU Jazz Interview Series YouTube Channel along with the NYU Jazz Podcasts has received well over a million listeners and our live audiences have been thrilled to interact with legendary jazz artists up close and personal."
