Featuring three choirs: Vocal Performance Chorale, World Voices Collective, and Black Music Ensemble
Vocal Performance Chorale, presents a program of inspirational choral pieces, including Allan Naplan’s Al Shlosha D’varim, Craig Hella Johnson’s setting of The Water Is Wide, Turn the World Around and Yonder Come Day.
World Voices Collective presents a program that celebrates holidays and the winter season across the world. The group will perform works in several languages, drawing from cultures including the Philippines, Zambia, Macedonia, and Spain. Pieces include the traditional Filipino Christmas song Himig Pasko, A La Nanita Nana from Spain, and Star of the East. The program also includes reimagined works from Beethoven, a selection from a Caribbean inspired Mass, and an uplifting piece from Zambia.
Black Music Ensemble presents music that honors the contributions and talents of Black women. Selections include We Sing As One, which celebrates the 133rd anniversary of the founding of Spelman College, Let Time Be Your Friend, To Sit and Dream from the text of Langston Hughes, and music by Black composers Dr. Rollo Dilworth, Mari Esabel Valverde, and Charles Anthony Bryant. This eclectic performance features movement, virtuosic solos, rap, and instrumental accompaniment.
