Name: Gianni E. Marcel

Hometown: Brooklyn, New York

BA institution and degree: B.A. in Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies, SUNY New Paltz

Research Interests: I am interested in observing non-traditional and traditional family dynamics and its impact on a child’s development and influence on their identity formation, particularly during the transitions of adolescence into adulthood, i.e. boyhood to manhood and girlhood to womanhood. Additionally, I am interested in the implementation of responsive and empowerment-based strategies that target racial, gender, socioeconomic disparities that exist within social environments.

Career Goals: I would like to work in organizations, institutions or foundations that utilize strength-based approaches and holistic interventions for the betterment of underserved populations and communities disadvantaged by the system.

Why HDRP?  NYU Steinhardt’s Human Development Research and Policy (HDRP) program takes into account both mixed research methodologies and human development theories that’s needed in the work I aspire to do. Each student’s unique research interest is refined and further explored through the emphasis on professional development and real world application by works of an internship opportunity and professional networking.
