To best meet the needs of our students, we have decided to suspend enrollment in the standalone World Language Education initial certification program. We encourage you to explore our dual-certification World Language Education and TESOL degree or our non-certification World Language Education degree.

Students may also take Teaching World Languages to Elementary School Children WLGED-GE 2018 to extend their certification to K-6.

All students must pass the following examinations to be eligible for NY State teacher certification: 

  • EdTPA Portfolio (World Language)
  • Educating All Students Test (EAS)
  • Content Specialty Test (CST) in Target Language

Additional New York State requirements for WL/TESOL certification:

  • GRE Scores
  • Major in the target language or 30 credits of study of the target language at college level or officially recognized equivalent (e.g., ACTFL test results)
