Summer Abroad for Grad Students

The Communicative Sciences and Disorders Summer Program offers post-baccalaureate and master's- level students in Communicative Sciences and Disorders and postmasters speech-language pathologists an opportunity to earn six graduate credits (two courses) or sixty New York State Continuing Education Units while living and studying in Sweden. Sweden is a country known for its state-of-the-art approaches to speech science and speech disorder remediation. Housed in the Department of Logopedics and Phoniatrics in the Medical School of Lund University in Sweden, the program combines lectures with directed enrichment activities.

The Department of Logopedics and Phoniatrics provides an ideal setting for the summer Study Abroad Program. The program uses the available expertise of Lund University neurologists, otolaryngologists, radiologists, linguists and speech pathologists to create a setting in which course content is taught and discussed from a multicultural perspective. Visits to Malmö University hospital, The Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm University or the University of Gothenburg are integrated in the program. Students are exposed to current research projects in an international environment that supports both basic as well as applied research.

All participants must take both courses and participate in required field trips to institutes, hospitals or rehabilitation centers. Each course meets for 7.5 hours per week for five weeks, leaving Fridays free for trips and enrichment activities.

If you are interested in participating in the summer abroad program, please contact Department Chair Christina Reuterskiöld.
