This course provides a forum for the presentation of research by eminent researchers in the field of communication sciences and disorders and related disciplines. Students and professional participants are invited to comment, ask questions, and engage in an array of topics in basic science as well as clinical areas. Research papers will be read in advance to prepare for upcoming colloquia. Students in the course will develop their writing skills and learn to formally and concisely write papers about research in CSD.

This course provides guidance on process and methodology in preparation for the thesis. Students define the subject of their thesis research, share their work in progress, and participate in discussions, working sessions, and critiques. By the end of the semester, students will have completed several crucial steps in the thesis process including bibliography, proposal, and outline.

Examines theoretical perspectives, modes of inquiry, methodologies and procedures for conducting research in dance and education. Focus on developing qualitative research and writing skills, and tools in movement assessment. Case study applications in dance education are stressed.

This course provides knowledge and understanding of the research process for historical, philosophical, descriptive, and experimental research. The major steps in the research process include: selection and formulation of a research problem, formulation of the research hypothesis, selection of the appropriate research design to collect data, knowledge of sampling and statistical analyses, development of the master’s thesis outline, and submission of the thesis outline for IRB approval.

Learning-through-doing on a faculty-led research project to map international engagement at NYU Steinhardt, this experiential learning course is designed for students who want to gain experience in project scoping and planning, collecting and analyzing quantitative and/or qualitative data, working as a member of a research team, producing different forms of data visualization, and communicating findings to stakeholders. Students leave with marketable research skills, insights into international higher education, and valuable experience in the consulting profession.

In this course, we deepen our understanding of theories of intersectionality, the origins of these theories, and the sociopolitical contexts in which theorists of intersectionality have found themselves. In addition, we take up theories of intersectionality to examine contemporary approaches to educational equity in U.S. contexts and design a pilot study which takes into account the dis)connections between identities, power, oppression, and justice in education.

Students research key issues that impact global art production and its reception through readings across disciplines (art history, criticism, sociology, etc.) Student analysis drives the discussion in each session. Competency in the subject and learning new research skills is built via written, oral, and a/v assignments. The final assignment is a project proposal related to the section’s theme, approved by the instructor, and completed in ARVA-GE 2301 (Spring).

This course guides knowledge development as a professional consumer of research and as a contributor to the growth of the profession. Emphasizes practical applications of research foundations, and addresses methodologies for evidenced-based research, guidelines to facilitate students’ ability to critique published work, and ethical considerations and practices required for conducting research.
