This course focuses on the skills necessary to engage in assessment of talent, role, & risk in the contemporary music business. Students will be exposed to the detailed thinking & decision-making process of high-level music business professionals, who will visit to work with them on the evaluation of work submitted by NYU songwriters, performers, producers, & other music creators.

An orientation to the profession of counseling & its ethical guidelines & to the specific professional specialization of mental health counseling. The course will include discussion of the history of the field & will address issues such as professional roles, functions, & relationships of counselors with other human service providers, licensure & certification issues, & the role of professional organizations in professional development & identity. The examination of the ethical guidelines of the professions & their application to the specialization of mental health counseling will include attention to processes & model of ethical decision making.

To redress anti-blackness in science teaching and learning, we must move beyond ‘Black representation in STEM fields’ as this primarily positions Black science geniuses in the past. Instead in this course we will reposition the historical and present day genius of Black scientific innovations and practices in science so that we can imagine a more affirming and humanizing future through curricular design and archival research. This course aims to humanize Black science cultural practices by centering the work of everyday people in the past, present, and future. In this course students will consider the history of science and science education, both within and beyond the confines of westernized science by engaging with research that looked to the archives to explore Black pedagogical practices. Specifically we will learn about the ways Black teachers prior to Brown vs. Board of Education, 1954 engaged in pedagogical practices that centered love, liberation, and community so that we might use this history to inspire how we might present anti-racist science teaching to all students in our classrooms. Anti-blackness in the use of science today impacts us all and limits our ability to participate in a fully democratic and just society, students will be given the opportunity to consider the misuse of science in their own communities and what they previously accepted as fact versus structural injustices. By the end of the course, students will present on their own research project or science unit storyline that meets at the intersection of Black pedagogical practices, science learning, and historical/current uses of science in our everyday lives.

This course provides an overview of the broader field of educational media and technology with a focus on identifying personal and professional goals in relation to various career pathways and trends in the field. Through guest speakers, site visits, reflective learning, and research activities students will gain an appreciation for the types of qualifications, skills and mindsets related to various career pathways.

History of the profession, the professional association, professionalism, individual and cultural differences, health professional/patient relationships, medical and professional ethics, and medical legal aspects of care. The student demonstrates professional behaviors in all interactions with patients, clients, families, caregivers, and other health care providers. Enables the student to practice in a safe setting and manner to minimize risk to the patient, client, therapist, and others; be aware of the practices and ramifications of sexual harassment; identify and assess the health needs of individuals, groups, and communities including screening, prevention, and wellness programs appropriate to physical therapy; display generously as evidenced by the use of time and effort to meet patient or client needs; and demonstrate social responsibility, citizenship, and advocacy including participation in community and human service organizations and activities.

Introduces colleges & university student personnel administration as a professional area. Emphasis on the historical development of the profession, professional standards, the role of specialists in the field, ethical problems, & relations to other helping professions & services.

A two-semester course designed to expose students to resources in the University and NYC communities. Resources include presentations by faculty and guests who have expertise in areas that impact the profession of dance education, such as anatomy and kinesiology for dance, technology for the contemporary classroom, funding, and inclusion, as well as major artistic, research, and education venues in the city. Students engage in a series of selected experiential lecture/demonstrations, workshops and visits with professionals who promote arts and education programs.

A two-semester course designed to expose students to resources in the University and NYC communities. Resources include presentations by faculty and guests who have expertise in areas that impact the profession of dance education, such as anatomy and kinesiology for dance, technology for the contemporary classroom, funding, and inclusion, as well as major artistic, research, and education venues in the city. This asynchronous course is designed to support the basic skills necessary for
professional development in the field of Applied Psychology, including community service, teamwork, resume and cover letter writing, interviewing, and oral and written communication.

Designed for graduate students who wish to serve as interns in international and intercultural settings. Permission to register is based on evaluation
of student’s internship placement by Internship Coordinator. Through course meetings and assignments, along with working in a professional setting, students develop the necessary skills to later use in their job search and career. Open by special permission to other Steinhardt students.

A sequence of activities to develop and expand students' career planning skills and abilities. With guidance and support from the instructor, students design and pursue an individualized set of experiences -- attending workshops and seminars, completing targeted career development activities, and more -- to help them achieve their professional and personal goals.

Includes discussions with distinguished leaders in the field exploring issues, challenges, and questions related to professional field settings and research experiences. Topics include conducting ethical social and behavioral research, participating in an experiential site, and professional learning. Students work on independent projects with faculty or site supervisor. Prerequisite for APSY-GE 2838.

This course provides students with information to transition from academic learning to critical reasoning in varied fieldwork settings and practice areas.

Developing the professional behaviors necessary to be competent, ethical occupational therapists. Issues related to working in community healthcare arenas are addressed. Preparatory factors for fieldwork are addressed, including interviews for fieldwork placements.

This course provides an overview of the regulations and requirements for professional practice in the field of communicative sciences and disorders. Students explore major contemporary issues related to employment as a clinician in various settings, including payment systems, billing, documentation, professional competencies, ethical issues, conflict resolution, decision-making, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

An orientation to the American School Counseling Association & American Counseling Association ethical guidelines & legal issues related to work with children, adolescents, & families. The course will include the role of professional organizations in professional development & identity. Attention to processes & models of ethical decision-making related to various issues including group counseling, child abuse, sexual harassment, bullying GLBT, social justice & advocacy.

This is the fourth in a four-course sequence in which students create, assess and refine their portfolios. Portfolios are web-based and include performance observations, case studies, peer ratings, specialty certification, documentation of professional activities, publications, and presentation summaries. At the end of the program, students present their portfolio to a panel of faculty members. The portfolio must document how the student integrated knowledge and skills learned in the curriculum to his or her specialty practice area.
