MPAME-UE 1429 Choral Materials, Techniques & Conducting 2 Credits
Practical procedures and materials for conducting choral ensembles at all levels of music education. Students enrolled in this course demonstrate essential choral conducting techniques, knowledge of appropriate choral repertoire, knowledge of how to approach problems of diction and pronunciation of foreign languages, and the ability to analyze and synthesize choral music scores for conception, interpretation, rehearsal, and performance.

MPAME-GE 2082 Choral Materials- Techniques and Conducting 2 Credits
The choral rehearsal is more than just singing. This workshop provides hands-on experience with vocal and choral techniques, choral arranging and composition for various ensembles, including selection and development of repertoire, and involving students in the arranging, composing, and performing process.

ENYC-GE 2005 Cities and Their Environments 3 Credits
The course focuses on recognizing & assessing the complex interrelationships between the city & its environment. The central problem is the alienation of urban residents from their surrounding
environments. Different frameworks for integrative analysis of human-environment relationships are used–from human ecology to geography to resilience. The intent is to re-conceptualize the city in
ways that make these phenomena explicit, & to communicate this to multiple publics. Students will also learn to conduct a quick sustainability assessment of a local neighborhood and develop a
communication plan for it.

“Students actively engage with urban environments through explorations of parks,
botanic gardens, aquaria, museums, field stations, and public and private organizations to explore the complexity of the urban environment and its role in environmental education and sustainability. Topics include environmental justice and equity, indigenous ways of knowing, urban forests, ecosystem services, recycling, water quality, biodiversity, climate action, and others. Students identify linkages between formal and non-formal settings and design educational materials for all."

SOED-GE 3030 Classical Social Theory 3 Credits
Examines major figures in social thought from the 17th to the 20th century. The course includes readings from the traditional canon - Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, Marx, Weber, Durkheim, Simmel and Parsons - as well as critics of the canon from black and female writers. Major themes include the legacy of the enlightenment, increased differentiation between social, political and economic spheres, diverse theories of historical change, and how these authors have shaped contemporary theoretical and methodological approaches to contemporary analysis.

This course introduces and establishes a foundational process for further study and
career success in Classical Voice. Over the course of the semester, utilizing Song Analysis concepts in conjunction with classical voice performance practices, students will prepare, present, and assess six works in twelve individual sessions. Critical listening skills, group assessment and discussion are a key component in this course.

FOOD-GE 2263 Climate Policy and Food 1 Credit
Domestic climate policy focusing on food and agriculture has evolved since the turn
of the 21st century, prompted by disruptions caused by climate events such as drought and flooding. The intersection of climate events, advocacy, politics, and research sets an environment for federal food and agriculture policies that target climate change. Examining the process of policy creation and related government programming allows us to understand the potential for agriculture and food systems to both withstand and address the existential threat of climate change.
