This course examines the relationship between media, empire, and revolution from the age of print and colonial expansion through decolonization and globalization. Students explore how media such as newspapers, pamphlets, art, telegraphy, radio, film, television, digital media, and other forms of communication have been used to build, govern, contest, and transform political power. The course considers media as both tools of imperial rule and resources for revolutionary, anti-colonial, and social movements.
