MIDI and DAW Production Studio

This studio course is centered on in-class discussion and demonstration of student works created using a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) such as Logic Pro, Sample Libraries, Synthesizers, and Sound Processors. During the class, students and faculty will provide feedback to student projects in order to improve the overall quality of the music production. In addition, there will be presentations and discussion of new releases of sample libraries, audio processors,
and synthesizers, as well as new features from updates on the DAW.

Course Objectives

  • Apply specific production techniques to improve the production quality in a discrete set of scenarios discussed each semester
  • Define the most relevant technological releases in Sample Libraries, Synthesizers, Audio Processors.
  • Utilize the new features introduced in the latest updates to their DAW

Course Content Overview

This studio class is designed to solidify the myriad concepts learned in Contemporary Scoring — to put them to practice in specific projects that students are working on at the time. Because each creative project has a significant degree of uniqueness, the class will revolve around how to bring this project to the next level of production quality by applying the most appropriate production techniques.

Further, the class will help students to become acquainted with new technology releases, which will serve as a framework for them to develop self-learning skills regarding technological innovation in the field of music production.
