Identification of the formal structure, leadership, & recent activities of public & private organizations, groups, & businesses that express concern for, or engage in, public educational activities related to the environment. What are the agencies & organizations? What are they doing? What are their commitments? What are the intellectual grounds of their activities. Topical focus changes yearly.

Orientation to the profession of clinical and counseling psychology in the context of the sociological and historical literature on professionalization. Major issues in psychology across areas of theory, research, and practice are considered along with APA Professional Practice Guidelines. Major foci of the course also include examining ethical issues in research, practice, and training and the socialization of students to provision of health service psychology. There is a particular focus on racism, marginalization, and oppression from an intersectional perspective.

Course is focused on ethical principles in art therapy & designed to deepen personal & professional values. Students will enhance their theoretical knowledge by art experientials & role playing. Course topics are organized to reflect the professional Ethics Code established by the American Art Therapy Association. Particular emphasis will be placed on confidentiality dilemmas in therapy & research, dual-role relationships, & the personal & professional development of students’ identities as ethically minded art therapists.

Analysis of philosophical issues in occupational therapy with an emphasis on considering ethical dilemmas and sound arguments. Characteristics of analytic philosophy and techniques used in inquiry are explained.

In this course, students evaluate the ethics of drama therapeutic or applied theater work across cultures and in communities across abilities, identities, mental illness and injury. Students examine and discuss topics essential for the training and education of creative arts therapists including professional responsibility, competence, confidentiality, informed consent, principles of teaching and training, responsibility to research subjects, dual relationship, use of physical contact and touch, self-disclosure, and risk management.

Course is designed to build students’ ethical imaginations and skills for collecting, storing, sharing and analyzing data derived from human subjects including data used in algorithms. The course provides historical background to understand the tenets of informed consent, discrimination, and privacy. Using case study design, students will explore current applications of quantitative reasoning in organizations, algorithmic transparency, and unintended automation of discrimination via data that contains biases rooted in race, gender, class, and other characteristics.

The ethical practices of those in the entertainment industry affect not only their industry peers but all in society. Ethical problems as they relate specifically to the entertainment industry are examined. Examples of modern lyrics & similar audiovisual endeavors are studied from the perspective of their possible effect on young people in both the United States & other world markets.

This seminar explores how ethnographers of technology and media conceptualize, conduct, and analyze their research. Students gain familiarity with a range of key qualitative field methods – taking fieldnotes, conducting participant observation, conducting interviews, writing thick descriptions of events, processes, and encounters – both through close readings of exemplary ethnographic work and through a sequence of hands-on exercises that allow students to apply these methods through their own original fieldwork.

Application of evaluation and intervention methods in psychosocial occupational therapy practice. Screening, assessment, goal-setting, planning of intervention, implementation of intervention, and program planning in mental health settings. Therapeutic use of self, activity based treatment and clinical application of occupational therapy frames of reference. Major psychiatric disorders as clinical examples.

Planning and conducting research and evaluation studies in the behavioral and social sciences. Special consideration is given to sampling, validity of the study, and types of evaluation designs. Students gain experience grading and critiquing studies as well as designing their own study.

Students will evaluate clinical literature and determine the evidence level of a clinical study, appraise the feasibility of applying such concepts in everyday practice, and design a program evaluation of their own practice using evidence-based approach. The course will emphasize the need for evidence based clinical practice and prepare students to obtain the knowledge and skills for future clinical effectiveness studies (e.g., participate in systematic review, data collections, or being a clinical trial coordinator).

Traces the development of technology from historical, current, and future-oriented perspectives. Attention given to intended and unintended consequences of technological events.

Physiological and pathophysiological principles for understanding the response of the human body to exercise. The musculoskeletal, pulmonary, cardiovascular and metabolic responses to exercise and their implications in physical therapy intervention will be explored. The effects of aging, nutrition and environmental stress on the body's performance will be discussed. Human energy expenditures, body composition and effects of training are presented in lectures and are coordinated with laboratory demonstration and experiences

Concepts, procedures, materials, and tools necessary for producing and managing exhibition projects in museums, cultural centers, and galleries. Space planning, traffic flow, object placement, use of graphic elements, interpretive techniques, and participatory and interactive strategies are discussed. Students will learn the skills of sketching, drafting, and model making by designing an exhibition layout, graphic, and sample label.

Exploration and use of electronic, multi-media, and other techniques in music parograms for the public schools. Conversations with leading contemporary composers.

Explores issues, trends, and research related to the study and practice of college student learning in service learning, internships, and civic engagement programs. Provides skills to education professionals to support individual, organization, and civic benefits of experiential learning opportunities. Topics include lifelong learning theories and research on the effectiveness of structured/unstructured interventions.

Application of basic and more complex experimental designs such as block designs, factorial, latin square, and repeated measures as well as single case designs. Students will learn the basis for these designs, power and sample size calculations, and related approaches to statistical analysis.

Participants will be introduced to practical drama strategies for bringing the plays of Shakespeare to life in the junior and senior high school setting. Students will be required to complete a written assignment.

Based on the work of the Creative Arts Team's acclaimed High School Program, this intensive introductory course focuses on the use of drama and theatre techniques to address critical issues facing young people. Participants will explore the step-by-step process of designing workshops using techniques such as the mini-script, literature-to-life (using short stories, newspaper articles, etc.), still pictures/tableaux, and role-play. Students will be required to complete a written assignment.

The seminar provides additional orientation and guidance to the school, the university, and the city, explores professional issues, and provides opportunities for students to enhance their writing, discussion, and presentation skills for the American classroom.
