Food in the Arts: Food and Fine Art

What can we learn from art about food, and what does the parallel rise of food’s importance and its artistic reflection indicate about the construction of modern identity? This course explores those questions and others, beginning with Medieval and Renaissance periods, continuing onto the Impressionists and their global influences, and ending with pre-contemporary Pop and artists working with food today. Highlights of the course include trips to the Met, MoMA, and a Futurist feast.
