Creating Ethnodrama: Theory and Practice

This course will focus on techniques used to research and create ethnodramas, play scripts composed from interview transcripts, participant observation field notes, journal entries, personal memories/ experiences, and/or print & media artifacts. Through assigned readings, literature reviews, data collection, performance of data, analysis of data, construction of scripts, & presentation of research ideas, participants will gain the skills to create ethnodramatic scripts, as well as perspectives on the aesthetics, ethics, limitations, & challenges associated with the form. Specifically, verbatim interview theatre techniques will be introduced & used to explore the genre of ethnodrama.
