Advanced Techniques of Theatre of The Oppressed

This course is designed as a continuation of the introduction to Boal's Theatre of the Oppressed course offered in the Program in Educational Theatre. This class will examine the history and practice of Invisible Theatre as well as focus on examining the function and facilitation skills of the 'Joker' through Rainbow of Desire and Legislative Theatre. These components of Theatre of the Oppressed are at the heart of the intersection between theory, theatre, civic and political engagement, and social change. These techniques allow us to more introspectively examine the ways in which we interact as human beings in an every-changing society. The course focuses on both theoretical foundations of the work, as well as application of these techniques in practice.
