Vicki Bodner is solo oboist with Orchestra New England, Ufonia, The Music Project, Musical Elements, Arcadia, Sarau Brasileira, has worked with John Zorn, and produced records for films, documentaries and television in New York and Los Angeles.
On Broadway she was the oboist for Beauty and the Beast, The Secret Garden, King David and for Villa Lobos' Magdelena at Lincoln Center. In addition to recording numerous television commercials for companies such as Philips,
American Express, Wheelabrator Tech, Powerade, McDonalds, Dial, and CVS, she was the oboist for "One Life to Live", Matchbox 20 on MTV, a Bill Moyers series, and is a featured soloist at the Pearl Harbor Museum in Honolulu.
As a soloist she has been featured on national PBS playing the Bach Double Concerto, a Telemann concerto, on network television playing Vaughn Williams Blake Songs on NPR, and has been heard performing on many live radio concert and interview broadcasts both around the US and internationally. She has premiered many new solo, chamber and orchestral works, has had solo works written for her, and has toured extensively as a chamber musician and as a soloist. Her chamber music groups have been the groups in residence at Merkin Hall, Kaufman Hall at the 92nd St. Y, Cooper Union, the Ethical Culture Society along with their series at Weill Recital, the Frick Museum, The Truck and Warehouse Theater, Town Hall and at Battell Chapel at Yale.
Vicki has also recorded with artists as special and diverse as Marilyn Horne, Anthony Newman, Dawn Upshaw, Butch Morris, Marc RIbot, The Emerson Quartet, Mandy Patinkin, Jerry Hadley, David Newman, Daniel Asia, Benjamin Verdery, John Zorn and Gil Goldstein, and has recorded for labels including Columbia, Koch International, Opus One, Nonesuch, Atlantic, Tzadik, New World and Sony BMG.
She has worked with the wonderful film composers Michael Convertino, Rachel Portman, David Mansfield, Michael Small, Wendy Blackstone and Rick Baitz, and has also been a very happy guest performer with many great musicians in the NYC downtown new music and improvising community playing at Roulette, The Knitting Factory, The Kitchen, and with world music performers at venues like Santa Cruz Jazz, Tully Hall, Woolsey Hall, Chrysler Hall, Norfolk Festival's Music Shed, SOB's and Bach Dancing and Dynamite.
Her festival appearances include Aspen, Next Wave, Norfolk, Bang on a Can, Caramoor, Mostly Mozart, Rome, Seville, Waterloo, White Mountains, Princeton Chamber Music, Oregon Bach, Yale Starlight, Virginia Arts, Japan Society, Charles Ives, Persichetti at Lincoln Center, and at the International Festival of Arts and Letters with Terence Blanchard and Spike Lee.
Vicki currently teaches at NYU Steinhardt as well as Columbia University and has previously been on the faculty of Wesleyan University, and has taught master classes in Brazil and Italy. Her teachers have included Ronald Roseman, Sal Amato, Albert Goltzer, Jerry Sirucek, John Ferrillo, and Herman Gersten. Vicki studied at the Juilliard School.
