Robert Botti

Oboist Robert Botti joined the New York Philharmonic in 1992 after serving as Principal Oboe of the New York City Opera Orchestra. Most recently, as a soloist, he performed the Mozart Oboe Concerto with the New York Symphonic Ensemble in Alice Tully Hall. An active chamber musician, Professor Botti is a member of the Sylvan Winds, with whom he has performed numerous premieres.

Professor Botti performs frequently throughout the season with the New York Philharmonic Ensembles in both Avery Fisher and Merkin halls. As a guest on Judith LeClair’s New York Legends recording, he performed the Tafelmusik Quartet by Telemann. Professor Botti is featured on the premiere recording of Arnold Sturm’s Suite for Oboe and Piano, and has participated in numerous other recordings with ensembles, including the Sylvan Winds, Philharmonia Virtuosi, New York Kammermusiker, Amadeus Ensemble, and Harmonie Ensemble. As a guest artist with Jazz at Lincoln Center he has collaborated and recorded with Gunther Schuller and Wynton Marsalis. Professor Botti performed in the Grand Teton, Bach Stony Brook, and Music from Colorado festivals.

Professor Botti studied with Harold Gomberg and Ronald Roseman. He has served on the faculties of Princeton University and the Manhattan School of Music, and has given master classes at Yale, Princeton, and Indiana universities. He is the son of Walter Botti, New York Philharmonic string bass player, who joined the Philharmonic in 1952.
