Kathleen Nester has been a member of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra since 1990, the same year she presented her Weill Recital Hall debut as the winner of the Artists International competition. She has performed the Vivaldi Piccolo Concerto as one of the "Stars of the NJSO." She is a member of the Stamford Symphony Orchestra and performs with many local and international orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Orchestra of St. Luke's, and the New York City Opera.
Professor Nester is a frequent contributor to recordings of classical, modern and popular music. Some recent recordings include a Musician's Accord collection of the chamber music of Henry Cowell, the cast album of the Broadway revival of Man of La Mancha with Brian Stokes Mitchell, for which she also held the flute book, "Where Time Stands Still" with Howard McGillen, and "Grace" with Kathleen Battle.
Ms Nester has studied with some of the finest flute and piccolo teachers in the world including Julius Baker, Marcell Moise, Ransom Wilson and (NYU Steinhardt faculty members) Robert Dick and Keith Underwood.
