j. Siguru Wahutu's primary research stream is in the fields of Sociology of Knowledge and the Sociology of Media, with an emphasis on genocide, mass violence, and ethnicity in sub-Saharan Africa. He has also written about global media patterns in covering genocide in Africa, on ethnicity, land, and politics in Kenya. This line of research has appeared in African Affairs, Sociological Forum, Journalism Studies, Media, Culture, and Society, Global Media and Communication, and The International Journal for Press/Politics.
Wahutu's secondary research stream focuses on questions about data privacy, media manipulation, and Kenyan media’s experimentation with social media platforms. This line of research has appeared in the journal of African Journalism Studies and Media and Communication. He has ongoing book projects for both research streams.
