Joseph Derrick Nelson, PhD is Adjunct Associate Professor of Education in the Sociology and Education Program at New York University Steinhardt. Dr. Nelson is a writer, teacher-educator, and sociologist of race, gender, and education. Outside of NYU, he is Associate Professor of Educational Studies at Swarthmore College, where he is also the inaugural Chair of the newly established Black Studies Department.
